The Wall Run Preparation
Having both been looking for the perfect challenge for 2013, Colin and myself had stumbled across The Wall Run, an “ultra” run which can be run in one go or run in two days.
We both decided the two day option was more than a challenge for us both. Day one will cover 32.5 miles and 36.5 miles on day two.
The course itself starts at Carlisle castle following Hadrian’s Wall through the stunning countryside of Cumbria and Northumberland, rising from the lowlands of the West into the rugged hill country of Northumberland National Park before descending gently to the banks of the River Tyne.
Our preparation for the ultra run began at the start of the year when we both entered the Haweswater Half Marathon which we completed on the 3rd March. So……the next target had to be a full marathon and it so happens that the Brathay Windermere Marathon is on 19th May.
Training runs started with 8 to 10 miles for the half marathon, full marathon runs from 10 to 20 mile. After the Windermere marathon I will be challenging myself with a Lands End to John’O’Groats cycle (over 900miles). Colin will be aiming for a number of back to back running days and a big 30 mile run during the 4 weeks leading up to the BIG event.
Being based in the Lakes we have both encountered some stunning views, from Loweswater, Crummock, Sale Fell and the Eden Valley as well as some amazing weather and of course some awful weather.
